The event begins long before the guests arrive.

There is a moment at an event that rarely appears in photographs.

It is the moment when there is still no one in the room. The chairs are being aligned, the lighting is being adjusted, the table has yet to welcome its first guest, and someone is checking one last time that everything is in place.

It is easy to think that an event begins when people arrive. But by then, every decision has already been made.

Before the space, there is an intention

Choosing a venue is not simply about finding a space that is available on the right date. It is about understanding what that place allows you to create.

A dinner may call for intimacy. A presentation may require focus. A community gathering may benefit from movement and spontaneous encounters.

The space shapes the way people behave within it.

That is why the choice should begin with the right question:

What do we want to happen between these people?

Only then does it make sense to ask where.

Then come the decisions almost no one sees

The arrangement of the tables. The distance between two chairs. The route into the room. The moment someone is handed a drink. The light falling on a particular point in the space. Where someone can have a conversation without having to raise their voice.

These are small decisions. Together, they determine the experience of everyone who is there.

And the event needs to respond to the brand

A corporate event does not exist in isolation.

The way a company welcomes its clients, brings its team together or creates a moment of connection also communicates who that company is.

That is why every decision needs to connect with the brand’s identity.

Not by placing a logo in every corner, but by making the brand recognisable even when the logo disappears.

Through the language of the space. The way people are welcomed. The rhythm. The choice of people. And the attention given to detail.

The real work begins before the doors open

When the guests arrive, a story is already in motion.

The role of direction is precisely to build that story before it becomes visible — and to anticipate what might happen.

To create space for what was not planned. To remove what could interrupt the experience. And to ensure that every choice responds to the same intention.

Because an event can be impeccably produced and still fail to create a connection.

The difference is often found in the decisions no one sees.

That is where direction begins.

If you are planning your brand’s event calendar, start with one simple question:

What do you want to happen between people when they are together?

The answer may change everything else.
