Not all corporate events serve the same purpose.

A company looking to strengthen its team does not need the same format as a brand launching a new product. Likewise, bringing together industry experts requires a different dynamic from an event designed to build relationships with clients.

Choosing the right format starts with understanding what you want the event to achieve.

Workshop

A practical and participatory format, usually focused on learning, skill development or collaborative creation.

Used for: training, co-creation, problem-solving and team development.

It is ideal when you want participants to do and take part, rather than simply watch or listen.

Lecture or Talk

A session led by an expert or guest speaker, focused on sharing knowledge, experience or perspectives on a particular topic.

Used for: informing, inspiring reflection, presenting trends or positioning experts.

It is a simple format, but the choice of speaker and the way the content is integrated into the event can make all the difference.

Conference

Brings together several speakers around a specific topic or area of knowledge, and may combine presentations, discussions and networking opportunities.

Used for: sharing knowledge, bringing professionals together and strengthening the positioning of an organisation or industry.

Symposium

A more specialised gathering, usually focused on a technical or scientific topic and involving several experts.

Used for: deepening knowledge, presenting research and encouraging discussion among professionals.

It is common in fields such as healthcare, science, technology and research.

Congress

Usually larger in scale and duration, bringing together professionals from a particular field and potentially including talks, workshops, presentations and networking opportunities.

Used for: knowledge sharing, professional networking and discussion of key issues within an industry.

Convention

An event organised by a company to bring together employees, partners, representatives or teams.

Used for: presenting results, aligning strategies, communicating new directions and strengthening internal relationships.

It is particularly common among companies with teams spread across different regions or markets.

Seminar

A gathering dedicated to exploring a specific topic in greater depth, combining presentations and discussion.

Used for: training, professional development and knowledge exchange.

Forum or Roundtable

Formats centred around discussion and the exchange of perspectives, usually involving several participants or experts.

Used for: discussing relevant topics, bringing together different points of view and encouraging participation.

Product or Service Launch

Created to introduce something new to clients, partners, the press, teams or the wider market.

Used for: generating awareness, communicating positioning and creating engagement around a launch.

The event can be the audience's first contact with what the brand is presenting.

Brand Activation

An experience designed to bring people closer to a brand through a relevant interaction or context.

Used for: generating engagement, creating brand associations, encouraging participation and producing content that extends the experience beyond the event itself.

A strong activation does not depend solely on an appealing setting. It needs to give people a reason to want to take part.

Networking

A format designed to facilitate connections between professionals, clients, partners or potential partners.

Used for: creating new relationships, strengthening existing ones and generating opportunities.

Here, the space, pace and way people move and interact can be just as important as the programme itself.

Team Building

Brings together activities or experiences designed to bring teams closer and encourage collaboration.

Used for: strengthening relationships, improving communication and creating moments outside the usual work routine.

Corporate Celebration

Can mark an anniversary, an achievement, a company milestone or the end of a particular chapter.

Used for: recognising people, celebrating results and strengthening a sense of belonging.

How Do You Choose the Right Format?

The starting point should not be: “What type of event do we want to organise?”

It should be: “What do we want to happen because of this event?”

  • If the goal is to train, a workshop may make more sense.

  • If you want to share knowledge, a talk or conference may be more appropriate.

  • If you want to bring people closer to a brand, an activation may be the right approach.

  • If you want to strengthen internal relationships, a convention or team-building experience may be more effective.

The format is a tool. The objective should guide the choice.

At Isisto Eventos, every event starts with that conversation: understanding the intention, the audience and what we want to happen when people come together.

Because a well-chosen event is not simply one that works on the day. It is one that makes sense for the company before, during and after it takes place.
